ABOUT RACHEL BROWN, LCSW

Rachel Brown received her bachelors and masters of social work at Brigham Young University and began her social work career volunteering with marginalized populations when she was 15 years old.  Rachel is a social justice oriented, culturally sensitive therapist who is fluent in Spanish.  Rachel feels that her role as a therapist is to be a witness to the sacred transformation process of another human being. She has a deep respect for the therapeutic process and the innate capacity all people have to heal. Rachel has 6 years of clinical experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma and abuse, as well as with adults experiencing perinatal mood or anxiety disorders, birth trauma, relationship changes, and faith transitions. She utilizes mindfulness, family systems modalities, cognitive behavioral, experiential and art therapies to help clients process difficult experiences and gain insight about their life stories. Rachel encourages clients to identify their core values as well as the strengths and skills they have to live those values. Rachel is passionate about community and connection, and helps clients enhance their relationships to self and others through purposeful expression and symbolic ritual.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES, MEMBERSHIPS AND AFFILIATIONS

For the last five years Rachel has facilitated the Afterbirth Postpartum Support Group in Utah County, creating space for processing complex experiences and receiving community support.

Rachel is trained as a birth and postpartum doula and received training from Pam England to become a Birth Story Listener. Rachel reverences the complexity of birth, postpartum, and parenting narratives and encourages clients to view their experiences through a lens that explores their comprehensive sense of self. “We are all the ages we have ever been at all times.”
