Claim Your Courage! Brene’ Brown Shame Resilience Course
**Written by Monica Ashton, LCSW and Director of Maternal Mental Health
I have a love and passion for working with women experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, so when given the opportunity to go to a training with one of the world renowned experts in that field, Karen Kleiman, MSW, LCSW, I jumped at the chance. I have followed her work for as long as I have been doing therapy. She has published several books that have guided my practice and expanded my learning and understanding. She helped the counseling community understand the distinct differences in treatment when counseling with a postpartum woman.
In September and as the sun rose in the morning, I landed in Philadelphia to attend one of the best Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder trainings. Having the opportunity to train with Karen Kleiman was real treat from someone that has read just about every book Karen Kleiman has written.
I enjoyed two full days of learning directly from Karen Kleiman, and working with and learning along side an amazing group of women from all over the United States. She challenged us and pushed us to step out of our comfort zone, to become even better than we started.
You can feel her passion, expertise and love for the those of us in the room. Learning from Karen Kleiman is not a leisurely event but very active, and will push your boundaries so that you have the opportunity to grow.
Our group represented the East Coast, West Coast, Southern States and Canada!
Karen in person did not disappoint, she was just as I pictured. Karen is a bright woman with a dynamic personality that fills the room. Her training was interactive, full of feedback and designed to push your boundaries, to challenge your assumptions and help the therapist grow in understanding of how we show up in our therapeutic relationships, and how we can do just a little bit better. The opportunity did not disappoint, and I feel that I came away from the training with increased confidence and tools to further help those that I supervise, train, teach and support. I am confident that I will be able to show up even better in my therapeutic relationships. The honor to train directly with Karen Kleiman will forever be an opportunity that I look on with fondness. Thank you Karen, and The Healing Group for the opportunity to grow and to then share that growth with others.
